Hard Dog Hard Core Bar

This is our best seller.  It has a beefy appearance since it is made out of 1.75” mild steel tubing.  It is a true 6-point roll bar and meets SCCA Solo I requirements.  The rear braces are straight and a single diagonal in the main hoop is standard while double diagonals are an option.  Options also include high-density foam padding and leather or vinyl covers.  Only available in black powder coated mild steel.

The Hard Core Has Four Variations

M1

Designed for first generation Miatas (90-97).  It includes a harness bar as standard. This bar will not work with a glass rear window. The M1 comes standard with a single diagonal but is available with double diagonals or X-braced diagonals.

M2

Designed for second generation Miatas (99-05). They can also be installed in the earlier cars.  It allows for the use of a glass rear window and works with OEM and many aftermarket glass window tops. (See FAQ)  To allow for the glass window, the rear braces have been shortened and harness tabs replace the harness bar of the M1.

M1 Hardtop

Similar to the standard M1 but the main hoop of the bar is lower and set farther back to clear the OEM hardtop. Will not work with soft-top glass rear windows. Diagonal options remain the same as the standard M1.

M2 Hardtop

Similar to the standard M2 but the main hoop of the bar is lower and set farther back to clear the OEM hardtop. The bar allows for the most options as it works with glass rear windows and hardtops. Diagonal options remain the same as the standard M2.

Hard Dog Sport

This is also a popular option.  This 6-point bar uses 1.5” tubing and is available in black powder coated mild steel or polished stainless steel. It comes standard without diagonals. Single or double diagonals are an option. This bar is not approved for SCCA Solo I (See FAQ)  but should meet most track event standards. It does allow use of the OEM hardtop. Options include high-density foam padding, leather or vinyl covers and finish, black powder coated mild steel or T-304 polished stainless steel.

The Sport Has Three Main Variations

M1 Sport

Designed for first generation Miatas (90-97). This bar will not work with a glass rear window. The M1 comes standard with no diagonals but can be ordered with single or double diagonals. The rear braces are straight. A harness bar is optional.   It is available in black powder coated mild steel or T-304 polished stainless steel.

M2 Sport

Designed for second generation Miatas (99-05). They can also be installed in the earlier cars.  It allows for the use of a glass rear window and works with OEM and many aftermarket glass window tops. (See FAQ) To allow for the glass window, the rear braces have a slight bend.  Optional harness tabs are available.  It is available in black powder coated mild steel or T-304 polished stainless steel.

M3 Sport

Designed for the third generation MX-5 (06+).  This bar actually uses the 1.75” tubing of the hardcore bars.  This roll bar replaces the factory hoops and provides an additional 3¼” of height over the factory roll bar. Works with factory soft-top and removable hardtop but does not work on a MX-5 with the power retractable hardtop (PRHT).  It comes standard with no diagonals.  A single diagonal is not an option.  Double diagonals, a harness bar and a removable Petty bar (front brace) are options.  It is available in black powder coated mild steel or T-304 polished stainless steel.

Additional Roll Bar Styles

Hard Dog Ace

Hard Dog Ace

This is an 8-point roll bar with plenty of options.  It sits the farther back for maximum head clearance.  It does not interfere with the retracting of the seat belt reels. The Ace uses 1.75” mild steel tubing and is powder coated black.  It is compatible with most glass rear windows and factory hardtops. It is not compatible with factory wind blockers. The ace is available with no diagonals, single and double diagonals. Other options include harness bar, top mounted rear braces, and diagonals that mount to the rear braces.  This last option is not compatible with glass rear windows. Hard Dog Deuce

The deuce mounts in the same way as the Ace. It is a true double hoop roll bar and has a classic look to it.  It is available in black powder coated mild steel or T-304 polished stainless steel.  It is compatible with first and second generation Miatas (90-05) and works with most glass rear windows and factory hardtops. It is not compatible with factory wind blockers. The Deuce can be ordered in two different configurations.  Center braced rear supports give a classic Shelby Cobra look.  Side braced gives a cleaner double hoop appearance. Harness tabs are optional.

While this bar can add roll over protection it may not meet safety regulations at track events which typically require at least six installation points.  It is available in black powder coated mild steel or T-304 polished stainless steel. It is compatible with all first and second generation Miatas (90-05) and does not interfere with glass rear windows and factory hardtops.  Options include high-density foam padding and leather or vinyl covers.

Roll Bar Accessories

Door Bars

The Bolt-In Door Bars are designed specifically to stiffen the chassis of your Miata. A torsionally stiff chassis will keep a more even load on all wheels to improve traction. The stiffer a chassis, the more likely the vehicle is to have even weight distribution on all tires which is favorable to cornering and superior handling. The Bolt-In Door Bars are easily installed in all '90-2005 model Miatas in conjunction with any version Hard Dog Roll Bar or even if no roll bar has been installed with minimal interference to normal use of the car. Additional rear back up plates are required if the door bars are to be used without a roll bar or with the Ace, Deuce or Hard Bar models.

Bolt-in Harness Bar

The Bolt-In Harness Bar is designed for competition harness wrap-around shoulder strap attachment. Easily installed in all year model Miatas in conjunction with any version of The Hard Bar, Sport Bar or Hard Core Bar with the least amount of interference for normal use of the car. Requires no drilling or panel alteration. Serves as a retrofit in situations where harness attachments were not ordered with a roll bar, or if you have an M2 bar with harness tabs and track event rules require individual shoulder strap attachments.

Roll Bar Padding

Hard Dog Roll Bar Padding is SFI rated and custom formed to fit most of their roll bars.*  You can dress up the bar and protect the padding from the sun with a custom stitched cover available in black vinyl or leather.  The covers and padding are available when ordering a roll bar or separately if you already have a Hard Dog roll bar. * Not available for the Xtreme Roll Bar.
