Hollow Front Sway Bar
1990-2015 Miata MX-5
Racing Beat's front tubular sway bars for the 1990-2015 Miata MX-5 applications offer you the ability to further tune your suspension to match additional suspension upgrades or to suit your particular driving style. Rated at 1.3x stronger than the Racing Beat solid front sway bars, these lightweight tubular bars have been extremely popular with Miata tuners for many years.
Racing Beat-designed sway bars for the Miata MX-5 reduce chassis roll in turns and increase your car's sensitivity to steering inputs, thereby improving maximum cornering power. Substantial engineering effort, select steel alloys, and precise manufacturing techniques are combined to produce top performance components. All Racing Beat sway bars are finished with a distinctive, red powder coating, which provides a smooth, glossy protective layer. You can be assured of many years of superior handling performance with these proven bars!
The addition of a set of matched-set front and rear solid sway bars is an ideal way to dramatically improve the handling of your Miata without sacrificing ride overall ride quality. If you use your Miata primarily as a daily driven car with occasional trips to the track or your favorite mountain road, the solid bar combination is well-suited for your needs.

Specifications 1990-1993 |
The Racing Beat 1.125 " OD tubular sway bar (.125" ID wall) is designed to improve the handling characteristics of your Miata for use on the street and track. The 1990-93 tubular bar is designed with one (1) end link mounting hole.
By design, the Racing Beat tubular bar for the 1990-1993 Miata is substantially more rigid than the stock 3/4-inch bar, but this bar weighs just 5.5 lbs! (As compared to the stock bar - 6 lbs.) Each bar comes supplied with replacement urethane bushings, a pack of specially designed bushing lubricant, and installation instructions.
Specifications 1994-1997 |
The Racing Beat 1.125-inch OD tubular sway bar (.125-inch ID wall) is designed to improve the handling characteristics of your Miata for use on the street and track. (Note: The 1994-97 tubular bar is designed with two (2) end link mounting holes. TDR recommends using the stiffer setting which is the hole closer to the center. The softer setting is the hole closer to the end.

Specifications 1994-1997 (RACE) |
Originally developed for use in the SCCA STS autocross class, this tubular bar offers you the ability to further tune your suspension to match additional suspension upgrades or to suit your particular driving style.
The Racing Beat Race 1.125-inch OD tubular sway bar (.188-inch ID wall) is designed to improve the handling characteristics of your Miata for race use. This Race bar differs from the standard tubular bar in wall thickness - .188" (3/16") as compared to .125" (1/8"). This stronger bar is intended for race applications where the driver is attempting to further tune their suspension to suit track conditions or to compliment suspension modifications/upgrades. This bar is not recommended for street use. To allow further tuning, this bar includes two (2) end link mounting hole positions. This kit includes replacement urethane bushings, bar clamps, and Prothane bushing grease.
Specifications 1999-2005 |
Racing Beat specifically designed this bar for 1999-2000 Miata applications. Testing on 1999-00 Miata models has shown that this 1.125" OD bar, combined with the Racing Beat rear sway bar, improves the handling of the Miata and provides superb handling balance.
This bar is 1.125" OD (3/16" wall) and is supplied with an upgraded clamp, replacement urethane bushings, Prothane bushing grease, and detailed installation instructions.

Specifications 2001-2005 |
Testing has shown that each model of 2001 Miata that we have driven has shown a tendency to power "oversteer" at low speeds. (The models tested include a base model with a 5-speed transmission, a LS model equipped with the 6-speed transmission and Sport Suspension package, and the LS model equipped with replacement KONI shocks.) Each car exhibited a tendency to oversteer at low speeds (under 40MPH) upon acceleration. Inquires with Mazda have failed to identify any specific changes to the 2001+ Miata chassis that might account for this handling trait.
As a result, these findings led us to develop an even larger front tubular sway bar for the 2001-05 Miata. The use of this larger bar (and retaining the stock rear bar) has neutralized most of this oversteer condition at low speeds, and allowed the Miata to exhibit a small amount of understeer at higher speeds. The use of the Racing Beat rear sway bar would negate the benefits this larger bar, and is not recommended. While the smaller 1.125" OD tubular bar we also offer can be used on the 2001-05 applications, we recommend the use of the larger bar.
This Racing Beat Miata tubular sway bar is 1.25" OD (3/16" wall) as compared to the 1999-00 bar of 1.125" OD (3/16" wall). This version of our Miata sway bar is supplied with a heavy-duty, cast aluminum bar clamps, replacement urethane bushings, Prothane bushing grease, and detailed installation instructions.
NOTE: This larger 1.25" OD bar can be installed on the 1999-00 Miata, but is only recommended for experienced individuals that are seeking to alter the handling characteristics to suit a specific usage.
Racing Applications (1990-2005 Miata)
For racers in the SCCA E Stock class, the use of the RB tubular front bar (and stock rear bar) is a popular combination. This bar can also be combined with the Brace Kit Hardware. (The brace itself is not legal in this class, but the supporting hardware can be used.)
Combine any Racing Beat sway bar with the Racing Beat Sway Bar Brace Kit and Heavy Duty Sway Bar End Links to fully exploit the potential of your car's performance.
Specifications 2006-2015 |
The Racing Beat Tubular MX-5 Front Sway Bar, weighing only 7.5 lbs, is manufactured using 1" OD (25mm) x 3/16-inch wall DOM tubular steel, as compared to the .82" OD (21mm) Mazda stock sway bar. As calcuated by Racing Beat, this bar is 2.67 times stiffer than the stock bar. The Racing Beat Tubular MX-5 Front Sway Bar is provided with three (3) endlink mounting positions and is finished with a distinctive, red powder coating, providing a smooth, glossy protective layer. This Racing Beat sway bar is supplied with two powder-coated bushing retaining clamps, urethane bushings, Prothane bushing grease, and detailed installation instructions.
These Racing Beat sway bars feature a pair of urethane Stopper Bushings, secured with band-clamp retainers, serving as a preventative device against lateral movement of the sway bar during hard cornering. This simple and effective Stopper Bushing method effectively replicates the method used by Mazda on the stock bar.
Final Notes |
When adding high performance suspension components to any vehicle, the result is an increased demand on the vehicle's stock components. We have designed these high performance sway bar components to complement and further enhance your vehicle's performance. We strongly recommend you consider your specific driving requirements when upgrading your vehicle's suspension and select components accordingly.
