The TDR Air to Air Intercooler
has been cleaned and sealed before shipping, however, it is recommended
that before installing the Intercooler, you run clean water through
it to make sure there are no foreign objects in it. After rinsing, shake
out any water that may be left. The Intercooler does not have to be
completely dry, but remove any excess water. Tape off using masking
tape or some other tape that will be easy to remove and not leave residue
behind.
The TDR Intercooler is supported
by two top brackets and one side bracket on the passenger side. The
power steering cooling tube in STEP 8 will be
modified for clearance around the intercooler. In the mean time move
upwards out of the way for installing the intercooler.
Hardware
Package D-1
- Attach the two
aluminum L-brackets using two 13 mm x 30 mm long bolts, washers,
lock washers and nuts as shown in Photo 7-A. Attach the L-brackets
onto the bottom to the Intercooler and hand-tighten.
- Pull the A/C condenser
coil back toward the engine. A bungee cord may help with this
step.
- From the bottom, insert
the Intercooler between the A/C evaporator coil and the front
bumper. Be careful not to scratch the finish.
- Using the two
10 mm x 25 mm long bolts and washers
from Package C, mount
the Intercooler into position as shown in Photo 7-B. Hand-tighten
the two upper bolts. The upper section of the L-bracket is slotted
to ease installation. Align so the Intercooler is clear of the A/C
dryer and then firmly tighten the 13 mm bolts first, followed by the
10 mm bolts in the sub frame.
- If you need more clearance
from the condenser canister, refer back to STEP
5 on how to proceed in bending the unit.
STOP HERE if you
have power steering before installing the side bracket and procede to
STEP 8.
- Install the side
bracket on the passenger side of the Intercooler using a
10 x 15 mm bolt and washer supplied from Package D-1, as shown in
Photo 7-C. Install both bolts loosely before tightening. A ratcheting
10mm wrench will help in the installation as shown in Photo 7-D.
- The factory horn cannot
be relocated on the same mounting holes, but there are other mounting
holes in the same location. If you use aftermarket horns you'll need
to decide where they will work best for you. A common mounting
area is the front fender well area behind the bumper.
